What work is covered under CIS?
CIS covers most construction work to either a permanent or temporary building or structure, or civil engineering work like roads and bridges.

Do you need to register for CIS?
Subcontractors
Subcontractors don’t have to register, but it’s usually in their best interest.
If you don’t register, contractors will deduct 30% from payments.
If you do register, the deduction is reduced to 20%.
Contractors
You must register as a contractor if:
You hire subcontractors to carry out construction work on your behalf, or
You’re not in the construction industry, but you spend more than £3m on construction within any 12 month period.
